Online Notary & Remote Document Certification

Notarize Your Documents from Anywhere

Finding time to visit a law office can be difficult. Therefore, we offer secure Online Notary Services (also known as Remote Commissioning) that allow you to sign your legal documents via video call.

In other words, you can skip the traffic and the waiting room entirely. Whether you are at home, at work, or even traveling within Ontario, our ODS-registered lawyers can witness your signature digitally. Consequently, you get the same legally binding results without leaving your desk.

Services start at just $30.

How Does Online Commissioning Work?

We have made the process as simple as possible. First, you do not need to be tech-savvy; in fact, if you can make a video call, you can use this service.

Step 1: Book & Upload

To begin, schedule your appointment online and email us your unsigned document (PDF format). Then, we will prepare it for the secure session.

Step 2: The Video Call

Next, you will join a secure video conference (via Zoom or Google Meet) with our Notary.

  • Specifically, we will verify your identity using your government-issued ID.
  • Simultaneously, you will sign the document on camera while we watch.

Step 3: Receive Your Document

Finally, we apply our digital signature and stamp. Immediately after, we email the completed notarized document back to you. As a result, you can print it or forward it electronically right away.

What Documents Can Be Notarized Online?

Fortunately, most documents that require a “Commissioner of Oaths” can be handled remotely.

Affidavits

For example, those needed for court, OSAP, or insurance claims.

Statutory Declarations

Including proof of residency, common-law status, or single status.

Separation Agreements

Additionally, we can witness signatures for family law matters.

Government Forms

Such as RIN letters, vehicle transfers, and custodian declarations.

Letter of Invitation

For visa applications (provided that digital copies are accepted by the recipient).

What CANNOT be done online?

Certified True Copies

Unfortunately, we cannot certify a "true copy" of a passport or ID online because we must physically inspect the original document. For this reason, please visit our office or book our Mobile Notary service instead.

Wills & Powers of Attorney

Furthermore, these usually require special "wet ink" signatures. Therefore, please Contact Us to discuss your specific options.

Is Online Notarization Legal?

Yes, absolutely. On August 1, 2020, the Government of Ontario enacted regulation O. Reg. 431/20. Consequently, this law permanently permits the remote commissioning of affidavits and declarations.

  • Moreover, our process adheres strictly to the guidelines set by the Law Society of Ontario and the provincial government.

Requirements for Your Appointment

To ensure a smooth session, please have the following ready:

A Device

Ideally, a smartphone, tablet, or computer with a webcam.

Stable Internet

This is crucial so the video does not freeze during the witnessing.

Valid ID

Specifically, you must show your physical government ID (Driver's License or Passport) on camera.

The Document

A digital copy (PDF) of the document you need signed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. As of August 1, 2020, the Ontario government permanently allows the remote commissioning of oaths and affidavits (under O. Reg. 431/20). Documents commissioned online by a lawyer or notary have the same legal validity as those signed in person.

No. By law, to certify a document as a Certified True Copy, the Notary must physically inspect the original document to ensure it is not a forgery. We cannot do this over video. For passports, driver's licenses, and diplomas, please visit our office or use our Mobile Notary service.

No specific software is required. We use standard secure video platforms like Zoom or Google Meet. You do not need to buy a digital signature; we will guide you on how to sign your document electronically or using a "print-sign-scan" method during the call.

It depends. If the document is for a court or organization within Ontario, we can usually commission it even if you are traveling. However, if the document is for use outside Canada, foreign governments may not accept online notarization. We recommend checking with the recipient of your document first.

Absolutely. We use encrypted video conferencing tools and secure document transfer methods. As Notary Lawyers, we adhere to strict client confidentiality and data protection standards set by the Law Society of Ontario.

Technically yes, but it is complicated. Wills require "wet ink" signatures and often need two witnesses present physically. While remote witnessing for wills is possible in counterpart, it is strictly regulated and costs more than standard notarization. Please Contact Us directly to discuss this specific need.
